Bees Knees 3 – 2 Sabden

Bees Knees 3 – 2 Sabden

A valiant effort from both teams in horrendous conditions saw the home team come out on top in the final reckoning.

Sabden took a deserved lead on 31 minutes; Jack Birkett nodding in an Adam Fuller flick-on from a Ryan Graves free kick. Sabden defended resolutely throughout the first half, but on 43 minutes, they let their guard down and were punished by a smart finish – the first half ending all square at 1-1.

Playing into the wind in the second half, Sabden had to battle the elements as well as their opponents, and the gathering blizzard did not help matters. A long punt downfield on 51 minutes from the Knees` keeper evaded the Sabden backline and the Bees Knees striker made no mistake to put the home side 2-1 up.

Sabden battled hard to put pressure on Knees, and were looking the more likely side until a breakaway goal on 74 minutes made the score 3-1; the referee choosing to ignore the linesman flagging for offside!

A late tap in from Paul Astin, following excellent work from David Fallon on the left, made for an exciting last 6 minutes, but Knees held on to secure a league double over Sabden.

Birkett (31), Astin (84)

Having a hand in both Sabden goals, and playing positively throughout, Adam Fuller is fully worthy of the Man of the Match award. He was run close by Jack Birkett who had a fine game at the back.
