Dog Inn 1 – 4 Sabden

Dog Inn 1 – 4 Sabden

A gritty display in which all 11 players played their hearts out resulted in a deserved away win for the Treacle Miners, which catapulted them into 2nd place in The Harry Dewhurst Memorial League.

They had to weather an early onslaught from Dog Inn, who looked motivated to avenge their heavy defeat at Nutter Barn two months earlier.

However, a change which saw Dean Foxall drop into centre midfield to allow top scorer David Fallon to move higher up the pitch, started to pay dividends.

Fallon scorched the Dog`s keeper`s hands with a rasping 30 yard piledriver, and on 40 minutes, Sabden got their noses in front as Paul Astin smashed a left-foot strike home from 15 yards.

An entertaining game, played in foggy conditions, had to wait until the 70th minute for the next goal. This was provided by a powerful run upfield by centre-half, James Dickinson, who then rolled the ball into the path of Astin to strike the ball into the net for 2-0.

Fallon killed the game on 74 mins, hunting down a poor clearance to slide the ball home.

Fallon still had time to make it 4-0 on 87 mins, following a deft pass from Ryan Graves.

A 90th minute consolation goal for Dog, a penalty following a trip on Travis Blezard, could not spoil what was a very good day for the reds.

Astin (40,70), Fallon (74,87)

In a game when all players knuckled down and performed well, it was great to see PAUL ASTIN putting in the kind of performance that was destroying teams earlier in the season. Also, DEAN FOXALL, dropping to central midfield, added some much needed bite and helped swing the momentum Sabden`s way.

It`s Cup Quarter Final next Sunday 15th February, and we are at home, so lets have a good crowd down at Nutter Barn.

Up the Miners !!!
