Globe Bullough 1 – 4 Sabden

Globe Bullough 1 – 4 Sabden

Sabden battled through hurricane-like conditions to earn a cup quarter final place.

The stormy conditions demanded the ball be played short and on the floor, and the Treacle Miners scored 3 almost identical goals in the first half while following this philosphy.

David Fallon notched his 30th goal of the season after 14 minutes, beating the offside trap from a Paul Astin through ball and rounding the keeper before tapping into an empty net.

Five minutes later, Astin was the recipient of a carbon-copy pass, this time provided by Dean Foxall. Again, the keeper was left on the seat of his pants as Astin rolled home his 25th of the season.

Hesitant defending on 27mins cost Sabden, allowing the Globe striker time to pick his stop in the top right corner to halve their deficit.

However, quick thinking from Fallon at a free-kick sent Foxall scampering away to bamboozle the keeper and slide the ball home.

With the weather having an effect on proceedings, a scruffy second half yielded only a solitary goal; being a spot kick on 83mins following a trip on Jacob Buggie.

The award of a penalty was maybe a little harsh, with Buggie perhaps being slightly outside the area when contact was made – Fallon cared not and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 4-1 to Sabden, game over and into the next round!

Fallon (14, 83), Astin (19), Foxall (43)

Adam Fuller dictated the tempo of the match, particularly in the first half and was instrumental in the goals, despite not providing the final assists.
