STOUT DEFENDING DELIVERS AWAY DAY WIN
Great Harwood Rovers 0 – 3 Sabden

Sabden had to defend well to take any points from Memorial Park, but a determined team performance ensured that – on a day when the creativity engine wasn`t quite firing – there was a base to build from.

Sabden had to be content to play much of the game on the break. On one such instance, Jacob Buggie turned in a 20th minute Paul Astin cross, only for the linesman`s flag to incorrectly rule the opener out.

However, 6 minutes later, Astin`s scowl turned to a smile as he steered Will Child`s pass into the corner of the net to put Sabden ahead.

Into the second half, and Sabden goalie Tom Diggins commited a foul in the area. Harwood spurned the chance to level as Green blasted the resulting penalty over the bar.

Worse was to follow for Harwood, as Buggie nodded a loose ball into the net, following good work in the 57th minute by Astin.

With 20 minutes left to play, Sabden made a substitution, with Zac Musker replacing Buggie in the forward line. Normally a full back, it took Musker only 2 minutes to pop the ball into the net and make the game safe for the Treacle Miners.

GOALS
Astin (26), Buggie (57), Musker (72)

MAN OF THE MATCH
Jason Bates – inspirational to his fellow defenders, he defended intelligently throughout, and made some scintillating attacking runs at the Harwood backline, particularly late on.

KEY MOMENT
Harwood`s missed penalty when they were perhaps in the ascendancy galvanised the Sabden boys and drove them to victory
