Rhoden Inn 4 – 3 Sabden

Rhoden Inn 4 – 3 Sabden
An under-strength Sabden side were unable to build on an impressive first half display, and ended up falling away to succumb to a narrow away defeat on a quagmire of a pitch.A Jason Bates shot drew a good save from the Rhoden keeper, but Dean Foxall followed up to tuck in the rebound to give the Treacle Miners an early lead.

Jacob Buggie then doubled the lead following excellent work from David Fallon, before Rhoden pulled one back following a strong run and finish from Robinson.

Tom Diggins had earlier clawed a bullet header over the bar, which ensured that Sabden went into half time ahead in the contest.

However, Rhoden cranked up the pressure and scored a freak equaliser shortly after half-time as a right wing cross found the top left corner, with Diggins possibly unsighted in the low Winter sun!

Sabden battled manfully, with Jack Birkett back on fine form in the heart of the defence mentoring youngster James Buckley alongside. Both made crucial interceptions throughout.

However, two more Rhoden goals all but killed off any hopes Sabden had of claiming any points.

A late rally saw Josh Parker tap home after Paul Astin`s shot was parried, but time ran out as Sabden searched for an equaliser.

Sabden remain in 4th place in the league but now have Rhoden breathing down their necks in 5th

(Foxall 14, Buggie 28, Parker 87)

Tom Diggins made 3 top class saves to keep his side in it, and was rightfully voted Man of the Match. Jonny Heap also had a fine game at right back and it was also good to see Jack Birkett and James Duerden showing signs they are getting back to their best
